A Stage (ステージ, sutēji ?) or MAP (マップ, mappu ?)[1] is a virtual[2] arena in which Rank Wars are fought. It is selected by the lowest-ranked Squad competing in a match[3] and revealed a few minutes before its start.[4][5]

  • Variety of Buildings
Cityscape A[6] is a large urban area on flat ground.

It is a varied map,[7] with rows of squat houses interspersed with condos several stories tall, while open spaces range from roads of various width to parks and stadii. Mountains are visible in the far distance.[8] This stage is considered the most standard one in which no agent class has the upper hand by default, and where audacious strategies based on topography are impossible. Nonetheless, a lack of experience with it can still put one at a disadvantage.[7] It appears to be favored in solo Rank Wars.[6]

Round 8

  • Varying Buildings
  • Mixture between small and open areas.
Cityscape B is a large urban area on flat ground, stretching as far as the eye can see.[9] Due to the varied sizes and shapes of the buildings, it is a mixture of low and high rises.[2] A sizable portion of the western area of the map[10][11] is taken up by a single, massive building or complex.[12]

Some areas of the map have few lines of fire, and overall it is known to favor combatants who fight at close range.[2] Yuba Squad will always pick this stage when given the opportunity.[13]

Cityscape C

Cityscape C
(()(がい)() C, Shigaichi C lit. Urban Area C?)

  • Atop a Sloping Hill
  • Short Buildings
Cityscape C is a hillside residential area. The houses, most of which are two stories tall, are built into the slope. The various blocks are separated by streets[14] with the occasional parked car.[15] Apart from the main streets, one can climb uphill through several flights of stairs.[14] The residential area is surrounded by woods and overlooked by a rocky wall.[14][16]

This stage is known to favor Snipers. A single one perched on a high spot can dominate the battle, with agents heading uphill and thus being forced to cross the streets making particularly easy targets.[14] Conversely, the houses reduce sightlines from below, making it difficult to take aim while remaining hidden.[17]

Cityscape D

Cityscape D
(()(がい)() D, Shigaichi D lit. Urban Area D?)
Cityscape D map (167) Round 7
  • Tall, Narrow Buildings
  • Large Shopping Mall in Center
  • Mall Has 6 Levels
is a urban stage comprised of broad streets lined with large buildings.[18] The biggest one is a six-story[19] shopping mall at the center of the map,[20] an ensemble of wide-open[21] (atrium, hallways) and narrow spaces (shops and restaurants).[22] Although a bird's eye view of the map causes it to appear rather small, the multiplicity of floors of each building makes it a vertically aligned stage.[21]

Since the buildings tend to contain broad, largely unencumbered spaces, Cityscape D encourages indoor Wars. In broad terms, ranged fighters have an advantage on the streets, whereas Attackers have the edge inside the buildings.[21] It is considered an anti-Sniper stage, since the only truly favorable area to Snipers are the streets, and to snipe someone in a building they must come much closer than they usually would.[23] Due to the multi-layered structure of the map, it is impossible to tell how close an opponent is from Radar alone,[21] and nothing short of Meteor will smoke out someone who hides with Bagworm. For this reason, many agents find this stage annoying to fight in.[24] Most fighters will take shelter inside the mall, thus making it the location where the majority of Wars are decided.[23]

Exhibition Hall

  • Potentially having an open field
  • Map Azuma excels at
  • Multiple levels
Exhibition Hall is a map whose distinguishing feature is what appears to be a large, multiple-story building whos industrial look is complemented by unusual glass paneling of distinctly modern taste. Around it is a vast, open space with several flights of stairs, some canopied, climbing up towards the building. A urban skyline is visible in the distance.[25][26]

The abundance of open areas makes this stage advantageous to mid-ranged and long-ranged combatants.[25] Haruaki Azuma is known to excel in this map.[26]

  • Narrow Paths/Alleyways
  • Varying Buildings
Industrial Area is an ensemble of industrial buildings, smokestacks,[27] and containers.[28] The appearance and size of the buildings vary considerably depending on their function,[27][28] and, though it has many open spaces,[25] many of the buildings are very close together. It appears to be a rather small map.[29]

The abundance of open spaces make this map favorable to mid-ranged combatants,[25] while the number and proximity of tall buildings can obstruct Snipers;[1] nonetheless, there are perches from which a Sniper can get an excellent view of multiple areas of the stage.

Settings

Stages appear to be set by default to daytime and calm weather. However, the Squad which selects the map can freely alter the time of day and weather conditions,[30] which will not be known to the opponents and spectators until the match begins.[31][32][33] Changing the setting of the map is rare in general has only 3 out of the 9 Rounds shown have unique settings which makes sense as everyone is affected by the change. Extreme settings are generally avoided,[30] as they make placement luck all the more important as well as the previous point.[34]

Night

This setting makes it so the combatants have to keep night vision on, which can be coupled with areas with bright lights like Cityscape D.

Rainstorm

The only known extreme weather setting, This makes navigating the terrain harder as every outside is wet, this setting has also been shown to affect areas with pre-existing water areas like Riverside A.

Snow

The only known normal weather setting, the snow is about 30 centimeters deep which heavily limits mobility for people without grasshopper however it is possible to bypass this by running on walls.
